Our school caters for a wide variety of diverse learning needs, supporting those children and families who may or may not have a disability. We provide an extensive range of programs and individualised supports for those children, including Individual Curriculum Plans and targeted literacy and numeracy programs.

The goals for all of our students, is that they will be successful and happy members of our school community and that they will develop to their fullest potential. The children are in their regular year level classes and our specialist staff, provide support depending on their individual needs.

This may include support in their classroom, and/or support in a quiet space for individual work/ small group work, specific intervention programs for literacy, numeracy and social skills. The support team assist teachers in management strategies and in the modification and preparation of resources.

If needed, our children are also provided with additional support during lunch breaks, school excursions and other activities e.g. camps. The children are encouraged and supported to participate in all school activities.
Some of the specific intervention and support programs may include:

  • Fingergym
  • Mini – Lit
  • Math Magic
  • Social Skills
  • Drumbeat
  • ESL
  • Transition Programs
  • Gymnastics
  • Yoga

Students may also be invited to participate in:

  • Annual Eisteddfod for children with special needs
  • Annual Athletics Carnival for Children with a Disability

All programs are based on the educational needs of individual students and these needs are discussed every six months with all involved personnel and parents. From these discussions an Individual Support Plan and/or Individual Curriculum Plan may be developed and implemented by the relevant team members.

Early Childhood Development Program

There are 13 ECDP’s in the South East Region and 102 in Queensland. The Early Childhood Development Program provides support for children from birth to prep age, who have been identified with special needs. There is an application process and our Head of Special Education Services will help co-ordinate this for you.

The children, who attend our program where possible, also attend a regular kindy or childcare centre.

The approach is a multi-disciplinary one where teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, paediatricians, families and teachers from regular settings help each child to develop to their potential.  Teachers at the ECDP and parents work together to coordinate treatment that assists the child’s educational progress with these various professionals and plan the most appropriate way to meet each child’s needs.
